LONDON: People around the world reported problems sending and receiving messages on the popular chat app WhatsApp for over an hour on Tuesday morning. The disruptions which began around 12:30 started easing around 2 pm with some users claiming services has been restored.
According to Downdetector, which tracks outage reports, people started reporting problems around 3 a.m EDT (12:30 pm IST), making this the longest outage WhatsApp has had. Nearly 29,000 reports were flagged by users.
Downdetector’s heatmap showed WhatsApp users in major Indian cities, including Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata were impacted by the disruption.
A WhatsApp spokesperson had said the company is aware that some people are having trouble sending messages and is working to restore service as quickly as possible.
People took to Twitter to report their problems with Facebook family apps, including posting hilarious memes and GIFs.
