A new Zeppole mix will hit the market on September 13, 2022 that will bring the popular taste of the Camerieri family’s Zeppole recipe right to the consumer’s kitchen. Inspired by the Feast of San Gennaro of Manhattan where his parents took him years ago, Joseph Camerieri’s family has transformed their popular, traditional recipe into a convenient, easy-to-use mix that can be found online. Zeppole is the Italian answer to the American donut but is served hot and fresh with powdered sugar.

The announcement comes on the heels of Camerieri agreeing to sponsor Mike Marino, a famous Italian comedian and long-time fan of the Mix. Mr. Marino was signed largely because he had enthusiastically loved the offer to receive the sponsorship when the idea was originally pitched back in May. Joseph Camerieri, CEO of Zeppole Mix LLC explained why he is so thrilled to sign him: “Marino directs his comedy towards all types of people, particularly Italian-Americans,” Camerieri said. “But more importantly, he is an Italian-American himself and so passionate and emotionally excited about the zeppole mix product, hence I could not be happier with our sponsorship of Mike Marino. He fits our ideal demographic and represents the sentimental value that goes along with the Italian treat.”

    The story of how the Camerieri Zeppole mix was created contains a special narrative: Joseph’s mother Gaetana “Chickie” Camerieri was born and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. While growing up, she often celebrated the Feast of San Gennaro. In 1976, Mother Gaetana moved to Florida along with her husband and three children. Years later, as a member of a newly-formed Italian women’s group, she pitched the idea of an Italian Feast of San Gennaro to be showcased in Safety Harbor. Florida. The festival soon grew to 15,000 attendees for a three-day weekend event.

     Actually, a “soft digital online launch” of the mix was held on August 22, 2022, and the official launch will be confirmed by Joseph’s appearance, this month, on Mike Marino’s show, “Live from my mother’s basement,” on September 13, at 8 pm. The podcast will feature a live demonstration consisting of frying the Zeppole.

    During many Italian Festivals, Camerieri has sold over 500,000 Zeppole while using this unique recipe mix, hence Camerieri’s Zeppole mix developed a strong reputation over time. Additionally, there was another family member working in tandem with Gaetana; that is, her son Charlie owned Camerieri’s Italian Bakery in Florida. To replicate what happened back at the famous Manhattan Italian Festival, Charlie was approached by the Italian-American woman’s club, no longer in existence today, to make and sell the Zeppoles at the event Mother Gaetana had helped to start in Safety Harbor. Charlie verified the old family recipe with his senior Italian cousin Elizabeth and after a few tries, he struck gold. Soon word-of-mouth testimonials were spreading around the western coast of Florida about this “must have” dessert mix.

    “In memory of my dad and mom, we just feel all the right things are coming together now for us to provide this mix to not only our loyal customers, but all the folks out there yet to discover its appeal,” Camerieri said in a statement. “The new generation of Italian Americans can feel just as proud of the recipe as my mother did way back in New York City at the festivals up there. This creation of our family is meant to be handed down to the next generation, and we’re excited to see what the future holds.”
