Jessica Nguyen is making a case for dopamine dressing

What’s your fragrance of choice? I’ve worn Diptyque Olene for years; it’s a beautiful narcissus-and-jasmine scent.

Any go-to jewellery? Two gold Catbird bracelets I bought in New York – they weld them on in the store so you can’t remove them – and my wedding ring. I also love a statement earring: pearl hoops with little chillies intertwined are a favourite.

Can you remember a favourite outfit from when you were a child? My mum made cute dresses for me and I always insisted on having matching frilly socks. I’ve always been obsessed with colour and certain shades, whether it’s food, flowers or fashion.

And your worst fashion mistake? Supré ra-ra skirts when I was 14.

What was your first fashion moment? I was a dancer from three years old – tap, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, everything. Then, when I turned 18, I became a dance teacher at my school. As well as choreographing, I had to design costumes for the competitions. Sketching leotards and doing all that handwork – sewing lace and intricate beading – really fuelled my obsession for fashion, colour and embellishment.

What are you currently coveting? I recently bought a buttery-yellow Rylan handbag that had been on my wish list for ages.

Is there anything you would never wear? I wouldn’t say no to anything. It comes down to how you put things together and style them.

Is there a current trend you like? I am the biggest dopamine dresser; I love that there’s a return to having fun with an outfit. I also love all the beautiful tailoring.

What shoes do you wear the most often? Sneakers. I also have a couple of pairs of go-to heels – black Gucci horse-bit mules with a block heel, and wacky vintage Roberto Cavalli heels covered in shells, starfish and pearls.

Who’s your favourite fashion icon? I’m inspired by fashion influencer Aimee Song. She’s not afraid to experiment; her style’s fun and playful but still put-together and polished.

What’s your favourite off-duty, casual Sunday look? A comfy Steele dress with a sweater and sneakers.
