Each week, Sunday Life’s beauty director Stephanie Darling roadtests a different makeup or skincare trend to find out whether it’s worth your time. Ahead, a restorative nail treatment.
Road Test
My fingernails are in a woeful state, so I sign up for the Nail Recovery Treatment.
The lowdown I am at The Parlour Room in Randwick, Sydney, all set to have my brittle peeling nails shaped, buffed and loved back to life by manicurist Stephanie. She starts with a file, shaping my nails and then cleanses my hands. She exfoliates my nails and cuticles with the Mavala Lightening Scrub Mask (mavala.com.au, $27) before applying Mavala Scientifique Nail Hardener (mavala.com.au, $20) and two coats of the magic Mavala Nail Shield (mavala.com.au, $22). This cocktail nourishes and hydrates dry, cracked nails and boosts the cohesive bond of my nail plates, leaving them looking pink and bright. Then comes a stress-busting hand massage. Stephanie finishes with Mavala Gel Finish Top Coat (mavala.com.au, $25) and some cuticle oil. And we are done.
Pain factor Zero, just a delightful laying on of hands.
Time taken Forty-five minutes.
Results As I tap away at my laptop the following day, I am gazing down in wonderment at my pristine, short, shapely nails. Perfection.
