For actor Diljohn Singh, theatre is the first love

Theatre is his first love

STRAP: In conversation with us, actor Diljohn Singh talks about his journey in the entertainment industry so far and reveals details of his upcoming projects.

Tell us about the projects that you have done so far.

The Girl On The Train, London Confidential, De De Pyaar De, Jawaani Janeman, Gold, Angrezi Medium and most recently Tuesdays and Fridays on Netflix.

Did you do any acting course?

Yes, I completed Acting Honours, a 3-years’ degree from Birmingham School of Acting.

How has been your struggle in the industry?

There is always a struggle finding work, but that’s with every line of work, so acting is no different. The only difference is one has to face way too many interviews/auditions and even if you get the job, you are open for scrutiny.

Which was your first project in front of the camera?

I did a small part in Guest In London, playing Mehta’s obnoxious grandson. I did get to witness Sanjay Mishra, Tanvi Azmi and Paresh Rawal in action which was quite enriching.

We hear you are interested in theatre. Is it?

Yes, I think theatre should be every actor’s first love! It can be exhausting, but it breaks an actor’s comfort zone. And it’s worth it because it helps in developing every facet of your body.

Tell us about your next project.

I am waiting for the release of Bellbottom. I can’t talk much about the role but it’s different from the ones that I have done before. I also have Hollywood project Boiling Point, in which I have worked with Stephen Graham. It is a one- take film with its own challenges.

How is it working with Akshay Kumar in Bellbottom?

Shooting with Akshay Kumar sir was an amazing opportunity. What I like about him is that the shooting of his projects begins and ends on time.

Now that you are based out of London, what do you miss about Punjab?

Makki di roti and sarso da saag are the two food items which I really miss. I can get it in London but having it in Punjab has its own charm.

What is your take on social media?

I think it makes life easy for an actor like giving exposure to his/her talent but sometimes you can get addicted to likes and comments.

How are you dealing with the whole Covid situation?

I believe the situation is the same everywhere. Everyone is trying to take as many precautions as possible, so as to stop the spread of the deadly virus. I hope this phase will end soon and pray that people stay well.
