EarthKind®, manufacturers of the nation’s leading plant-based pest prevention products, is thrilled to receive the Business Intelligence Group’s Sustainability Initiative of the Year award for its Year of the Monarch Campaign.
The Business Intelligence Group’s Sustainability Awards program honor those people, teams, and organizations across the world who have made sustainability an integral part of their business practice or overall mission.
Launched in January 2021, EarthKind’s Year of the Monarch initiative is a national collective effort to preserve and protect threatened monarch butterfly and pollinator habitats, while recognizing and supporting teachers across the country who focus on implementing eco-education into their curriculums.
At the heart of the initiative is the Harmony Hero Award program. Each month, through a rigorous nomination and selection process, EarthKind® recognizes one K-12 teacher who is committed to implementing impactful eco-curriculums focused on getting kids outdoors and connected to nature at an impressionable age. Each teacher receives Integrated Pest Management (IPM) training for their school to reduce pesticide-use, plus sustainable product essentials for their outdoor eco-education curriculums. At the end of the year, one teacher will win an all-expense-paid National Habitat Adventure (NHA) trip to Mexico’s Kingdom of Monarchs for themselves and three guests. This trip will be led by NHA sustainable travel guide and entomologist, Dr. Court Whelan, in March 2022.

The Monarch, which depends on Fir trees for protection from hungry mice, made it a natural ‘icon’ choice. We also felt that eco-teachers were doing really important work by getting kids off their devices and outside in nature doing something meaningful. Kids need to know their impact matters, and teachers need more support.”
Over the past year, EarthKind® has also received esteemed certifications unheard of within the pest control industry. The brand has become carbon neutral, 100% climate neutral certified, Leaping Bunny 100% Cruelty-Free certified, and has achieved the U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) Certified BioPreferred Product label, highlighting the high percentage of biobased content used throughout its line of sustainable pest repellents.
