Aarohi Patel hopes to be like Kashibai

What is the show all about?

The show showcases the story of the great Maratha empire, the pride and valour of the Maraths, narrated from the lens of Kashibai. It will follow the journey of a pampered and protected girl, who goes on to become Peshwinbai – an administrator par excellence who held fort while Bajirao was out expanding the Maratha kingdom.

How did you get this big show?

I had auditioned for the role and I thought I did not make it, but they called me back after a while and we did three or four look tests and then I was finalised.

How are you preparing for the show?

The creative team spends a lot of time with me, takes me through the historical and cultural aspects of the Maratha empire and Kashibai’s journey. I have understood the character of young Kashibai. The styling team has put in a lot of effort to make me look as close to the Kashi. I learnt Marathi and Sanskrit for my role.

Do you relate to your character in real life?

Kashibai was a very pampered and protected young girl, just like my mother pampers me. I am learning a lot about Kashibai through this show. I am really inspired by Kashibai and I hope someday, I can be as kind-hearted and strong as she was.

How has been the experience of sharing the screen with actor Venkatesh Pande?

I enjoy working with Venky bhaiya. We are very comfortable on the sets and we have lots of fun.

How would you want to impact the world when you grow up?

I think I am too young to think about this now, but I would want to be someone who inspires people to work hard and enjoy what they do.

Shoot and studies, how do you manage both?

My school authorities have been extremely supportive and with the pandemic, our classes are all online. So, I don’t miss my main subjects. I take my online classes in the morning and shoot for the rest of the day.

Are you staying in Karjat where the show is being shot?

We are currently staying with the entire crew in Karjat and shooting at the beautiful ND Studio where it feels like you have opened a history book and entered another era.

How are you staying Covid-safe?

The entire crew is vaccinated, and we are shooting in a bio bubble, with minimal access to outsiders. We also keep sanitising ourselves and wear masks whenever we’re not shooting.

Did you know about Kashibai before you bagged the show?

Yes, I had watched Bajirao Mastani and loved Priyanka Chopra’s performance in the film as Kashi. I was thrilled to bits when I realised, I was going to play the part.
