Zeppole LLC declared today that more people than ever before are enjoying the festival taste of a Zeppole based on sales figures that have spiked dramatically, as consumers begin to sit down and enjoy a Zeppole on National Zeppole Day, March 19th. The Zeppole is known by consumers as the Italian equivalent of the popular donut. March 19th -a Sunday – also happens to be St. Joseph’s Day and Joseph Camerieri, the creator of the product, said he is humbled to be another Joseph out in the community creating festive desserts for consumers.
Recent incoming sentiments from buyers tend to look like this: “With your mix, now I don’t need one(my own recipe Card),” said one loyal customer; “Thanks for the great Zeppole (mix) and the wonderful memories that go along with them.” Another said, “My wife’s sister passed on a bag of your Zeppole Mix to us as a present. And He went on to say Reminded me of the Zeppole we use to get at the San Gennaro Festival here in Manhattan. We are now a new customer and truly enjoy your Zeppole Mix”.
Mr. Camerieri points out that his recipe is one of many that exist within today’s Italian culture. And yet he is the current market leader in the category of dry Zeppole Mix. One of the most coveted recipes is his long-standing traditional festival-type recipe, which is a batter that can be quickly fried and coated with powdered sugar. This happens to be a classic Zeppole that Italians as well as non-Italians are familiar with. The other version of the recipe is the Saint Joseph’s Day recipe, a pastry dessert stuffed with creamy filling.
The product’s history also includes one special narrative: Joseph’s mother Gaetana “Chickie” Camerieri was born and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. While growing up, she often celebrated the Feast of San Gennaro. In 1976, Mother Gaetana moved to Florida along with her husband and three children. Years later, as a member of a newly-formed Italian women’s group, she pitched the idea of an Italian Feast of San Gennaro to be showcased in Safety Harbor. The festival soon grew to 15,000 attendees for a three-day weekend event.
