If you’re someone who’s been eyeing the Galaxy Buds Pro for a while, Samsung’s Galaxy Buds2 is a considerable option with a lower price tag.
Weighing at just 5g each, the buds are said to be Samsung’s lightest in-ear earbuds yet. Plugging them in, here’s what we liked about them.
Fit your comfort and style
The Galaxy Buds2 have a similar bulbous shape and size to the Buds Pro.
Inside the package, you’ll get three different silicone ear tip sizes. You can even get a fit test on the Samsung Wearable app to help you figure out which size fits best for your ears.
Its jewellery box style case has a white glossy finish on the outside, and the earbuds themselves come in four different colours: olive, lavender, white, and graphite.
Noise isolation and cancellation
Each earbud is packed with three microphones, a dynamic two-way speaker system, and a single-use mode.
They also have something Samsung calls a Voice Pickup Unit technology which helps detect and remove unwanted sounds like car horns, building sites, or wind when you’re on a call.
Its dynamic two-way speaker system means that the earbuds have a woofer and a tweeter. The woofer specifically controls the bass quality while the tweeter enhances higher-frequency sounds.
The Galaxy Buds2 also has Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) functions. In the app, there is an option to switch to ambient sounds which let you hear your surroundings without having to remove your earbuds.
If you’re not a fan of the current audio sound quality, you can choose five different built-in equaliser presets to your own liking.
Tap controls
There are four different touch controls on the earbuds.
You can customise the touch and hold function to either access voice assistant commands, switch noise controls, volume controls, or launch Spotify.
For those with Samsung phones, there’s an extra functionality under the Labs menu. You get the option to enable double tap at the edge of the earbuds.
Reliable battery life
In terms of battery life, the Galaxy Buds2 have five hours of usage with ANC turned on. Without the ANC, they can last for seven and a half hours.
These buds support wired and wireless charging, and have an LED on the front of their case to display their battery status.
Seamless connectivity
With any Samsung phone, pairing the earbuds are seamless. When you open the case, you will be prompted on your phone to connect the pair.
There is also an Auto Switch feature that lets you switch between different Galaxy devices easily. From watching a movie on your tablet to receiving a call on your phone, the audio transfers are all hands-free.
Low water resistance
With a lower RM499 price tag, Samsung had to sacrifice something within the Galaxy Buds2. Thus, they only have a rating of IPX2. So you could wear these on a jog, but maybe not in rainy weather.
