Zelda Breath of the Wild demo showcases the power of the Nintendo Switch 2

A new report has shed some light on the rumoured Nintendo Switch 2 reveal at Gamescom. As previously reported, Nintendo is believed to have shown off the upcoming console to development partners at the gaming event in Germany. Needless to say, this has led to speculation that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be unveiled very shortly – perhaps during the traditional September Direct conference that’s rumoured to take place soon.

A new report by Eurogamer backs up the previous rumour that the Nintendo Switch 2 made an appearance at Gamescom.

Furthermore, it’s believed that Nintendo demonstrated the power of the new device by showing a “souped up” version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Little else is known about the demonstration, and there’s no suggestion that Breath of the Wild is actually in development for the Switch 2.

Of course, if the Switch 2 is backwards compatible, there’s a chance we could get an upgraded version of the hugely popular Nintendo Switch launch title.

If the game is ported to the Switch 2, fans will be hoping for a 60 FPS frame-rate, improved draw distances, superior textures and more enemies on screen.

It certainly sounds like the Switch 2 could handle it.

A report by Chinese site MoneyDJ claimed that a company called Hongzhun is manufacturing metal cases for a Nintendo Switch successor.

The reports have since been backed up by Microsoft court documents, which speculate that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have a 2024 release date.

The console will reportedly cost $399 at launch, which is $100 more than the price of the original Switch when it released in 2017.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will also have an LCD display, instead of a superior OLED screen. The decision to use an LCD screen is seen as a cost-cutting measure for Nintendo.
