Netflix Tudum festival recently provided us with a sneak peak for Zack Snyder’s next project, Rebel Moon. Rebel Moon was originally supposed to be a Star Wars film with Disney, but was reject due to the R-Rated nature of it. But, this does not impact Snyder in any way as he feels it is better to have Netflix backing Rebel Moon rather than Disney.
Zack Snyder feels Rebel Moon being picked up by Netflix, and not Disney is a blessing
In an interview with Empire Magazine, Snyder was recently asked if he was happy with Netflix behind the film rather than Disney, to which he stated “it was a blessing in a lot of ways”. Snyder added that creatively, the movie is “wide open” and is “shaped by Star Wars at this point”. The fact that Star Wars is a big influence cannot be discredited, however “it gets weirder” in the telling.
Snyder went on to state the difference between Rebel Moon and Star Wars by pointing out that it will be different because of his “different point of view”. Fans would be able to say “on a broad stroke” that Rebel Moon is “kind of Star Wars-y” but as soon as they are invested in it, they will realise that is not case.
For those that want more context on the movie, Rebel Moon is a movie about a peaceful colony on the outskirts of the galaxy that is invaded by the evil forces of the Imperium. A team of warriors joins the fight in order to save the colony and try to overthrow the invaders through galactic resistance. Rebel Moon releases on December 22, 2023.
