YouTube creators can earn up to $10,000 per month for making Shorts: All you need to know – Times of India

If you are a social media content creator, then YouTube has just found a way to give you that extra push to post original content on its platform — YouTube Shorts — that rivals Instagram Reels and TikTok. The company has today made live its YouTube Shorts Fund, which is a $100 million fund for creators.
The amount of $100 million dollars will be distributed over 2021-2022 and each month YouTube will reach out to eligible creators — which could go up to thousands. YouTube said that creators can earn anywhere from $100 (Rs 7,400 approximately) to $10,000 (Rs 7,40,000 approximately).
How to earn from YouTube Shorts
YouTube said that the amount that a creator earns from Shorts will depend on viewership and engagement. It will ask creators to claim a bonus payment on their channel’s total Shorts performance from the previous month.
“A channel’s Shorts will count toward their monthly performance each month viewers watch them, not just the month they were uploaded,” explains YouTube. Therefore in case a creator doesn’t qualify one month, they may qualify the next.
According to the company, “there’s no specific performance threshold to qualify for a bonus and the level of performance needed to qualify for a bonus payment may change from month to month based on various factors, including the location of your viewers and the overall growth of Shorts.”
Creators from which countries are eligible to earn from YouTube Shorts Fund
Besides India, creators of the US, UK, Brazil, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia and South Africa are eligible to earn money via this fund. YouTube said that it has plans to expand eligibility to more countries soon.
What is the eligibility criteria to earn from YouTube Shorts Fund

  • Channels need to have uploaded at least one eligible Short in the last 180 days.
  • The Shorts video needs to be original content. This means that those who upload videos with watermarks or logos from rivals — such as Instagram or TikTok will not be eligible. Also, videos re-uploaded from other creator’s channels will also not qualify for this fund.
  • Creators must be the age of majority in their country, therefore creators in India need to be 18 or older.
