Yellowstone makes its way to CBS this fall, while Ms. Marvel heads to ABC in August as TV networks start to restructure their broadcast schedules amid the ongoing Hollywood strikes.
The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) opted to join the Writers Guild of America (WAG) on the picket lines on July 14, prompting a work stoppage from actors as well as writers on the majority of film and TV productions, which, in turn, has shaken up broadcasting schedules.
As reported by Variety, broadcast networks are looking to bring in shows from sister networks and streamers to fill out their schedules. As such, CBS has imported the hit series Yellowstone from its Paramount ecosystem, since it originated on Paramount Network. It will air on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, beginning with Season 1.
Yellowstone’s inclusion on CBS’ fall schedule gives people the chance to catch up on the Dutton saga before the show rolls out the second half of its fifth and final season in November, with its sequel series following sometime in December. However, the dual writers and actors strikes could cause a pushback on these dates.
Elsewhere, ABC announced the MCU show Ms. Marvel would make its broadcast TV debut in August, having originally streamed on Disney+. Per TVLine, the season will air in two batches, with the first three episodes debuting on August 5 and the remaining three episodes following on August 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Ms. Marvel is the first Marvel Studios-produced Disney+ TV show to transition from the streaming platform to cable television. ABC adding the Iman Vellani-led series to its schedule will help introduce wider audiences to the character before she links up with Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel in The Marvels this November.
With both guilds in a united front, they now hold significantly more leverage. However, studios have reportedly planned to wait out the strikes until at least October, meaning networks may need to continue to branch out to find alternative options and rework broadcast schedules in order to fill any empty slots.
