Xiaomi 12S could be the company’s first co-developed smartphone with Leica – Times of India

Leica finally ditched Huawei and joined hands with Xiaomi, announcing that their first co-developed smartphone would come in July. Speculation was rife that the first jointly developed device in the Xiaomi-Leica lineup would be the alleged Xiaomi 12 Ultra. However, now a picture of the upcoming Xiaomi 12S with the ‘Leica’ branding on its camera module has surfaced online, hinting that the Xiaomi 12S series might be the first to get benefited from the company’s partnership with the German camera manufacturer.
The Xiaomi 12S series is expected to debut soon in China. The Xiaomi 12S series is said to comprise two models — Xiaomi 12S and Xiaomi 12S Pro. Both smartphones appeared on the IMEI database last month, suggesting an imminent launch.
Very little is known about the two smartphones. The Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro might have similar specifications as their predecessors. However, both of them are said to come with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and an improved camera setup. If rumours are believed, then the Xiaomi 12S is rumoured to come with a triple camera setup led by a 50MP primary camera. The Leica partnership could help Xiaomi improve its optics. But, it is unclear how Xiaomi and Leica are going with this partnership; whether this will be a branding deal or the two companies will be working together to optimise the camera setup remains to be seen yet.
We expect to learn more about the partnership between the two companies and the upcoming Xiaomi 12S series as the launch nears.
