Xenonauts 2: How To Recruit New Soldiers

Quick Links

To claim that Xenonauts 2 is anything but difficult would be ludicrous. It’s the sequel to the spiritual successor of the original XCOM line of turn-based strategy games; back when the strategy genre was so niche and so much more involved, developers could easily get away with overly complex and challenging mechanics.

Xenonauts 2 is a challenging turn-based strategy game with an overworld global map, known as the Strategic Layer, that allows players to build up their secretive organization, complete with multiple unique bases scattered about the game world, and recruit budding recruits who will prove themselves face-to-face against droves of aliens. But not all soldiers are equal, and some carry heavy weapons that decimate more than aliens.

The currently available roster of soldier classes in Xenonauts 2 includes the following:

  • Assault
  • Grenadier
  • Heavy
  • Rifleman
  • Shield
  • Sniper

Along with these classes, players can use research to unlock various combat drones to assist in battles.

How To Recruit New Soldiers

Xenonauts 2 Recruit New Soldiers

Players will inevitably lose soldiers during tactical gameplay, as poor positioning or pure unluckiness can lead to a devastating loss. But fret not because recruiting new soldiers in Xenonauts 2 is possible. That said, there are a few limitations. For example, in the beginning, players are limited in how many soldiers they may host at their base at any given time. However, it’s possible to expand this number by constructing one or more barracks later on.

When players need more recruits to stop the alien menace, turn to the Strategy Layer. At the top of the screen, players may access the ‘Soldiers’ menu, which provides a detailed breakdown of all available soldiers in the player’s roster. At the bottom of this menu, there’s an option to ‘Recruit Soldiers.’ A new menu will appear with the currently available list of recruits, including their rank and stats.

Tip: Try to avoid recruits with any red-number stats. They’re not worth spending time on and potentially risking an entire squad because of a mishap in the tactical layer caused by a low skill check number. Instead, look for yellow and especially green number stats. They’re in abundance, for the most part.

When commanders find recruits they want to hire, select the recruit or tick the checkbox on the left-hand side of the menu. Then, hit the recruit button and pay the fee. It’s usually tens of thousands of dollars, though money isn’t too much of an issue right now, as players can start with a few million dollars.
