Windows 7 and 8 users will not get any update for Chrome from next week onward | Digit

Google was planning to stop security updates and technical updates for the Chrome browser in Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 from 2021 but was delayed twice and now finally Google is making the move. Chrome will stop receiving updates by next week. So, if you are still using older versions of Windows and you want to keep your Chrome safe and experience new features then we suggest you update your Windows to Windows 10. Chrome 110, the latest update is tentatively scheduled to launch on February 7 and only users of Windows 10 or above will be able to receive it.

According to a report by NetMarketShare.com, at least 14% of Windows devices all over the world were running on Windows 7 in December 2021. Millions of people and organisations are still using older versions of Windows in order to save money from updating. That’s why Google had to make this move. Google said “Older versions of Chrome will continue to work, but there will be no further updates released for users on these operating systems. If you are currently on Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1, we encourage you to move to a supported Windows version to ensure you continue to receive the latest security updates and Chrome features.” Microsoft also stopped the security updates and patches three years back for Windows 7 users. The reason was the same, people were not upgrading their Windows.

The chances are very high for PC and Chrome to get infected by viruses if users do not get the security updates and patches. But the older versions will remain working as before. However, it won’t be protected by new security updates and there won’t be new features launched by Google for Chrome.
