Yesteryears actress Mumtaz who mostly stays in London recently came to Mumbai to spend time with her friends. Among them is Dharmendra who has been busy shooting Karan Johar’s next ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’.
On a lazy Sunday, when Mumtaz with her sister decided to visit Dharmendra at his farmhouse just outside Mumbai, Prakash Kaur played the perfect host to the guests. A happy Mumtaz shared pictures from the meet, and she told ETimes, “I have only a handful of friends in the film industry. One of them is Dharmendra. I called him up and told him that I was in the city and wanted to meet him. I visited him at his place in Mumbai for tea. We were meeting after a long-long time. We were also joined by his wife (Prakash Kaur). She’s sweet. We sat for around two hours and spoke about duniya ki baatein….industry kitni badal gayi hai…log kitne badal gaye hai. We also walked down the memory lane remembering our film shoots. I haven’t done too many films with Dharmendra, but jitni bhi ki hai usme hum bohot close ho gaye. He is a wonderful man and a human being. I have genuinely liked him since then.”
Here’s the picture doing rounds on social media:
Bollywood’s He-man, while talking about the meet, shared how covid-19 has distanced human beings from one another. “Social distancing has now become the normal thing. Nobody meets anyone anymore. Sometimes it gets lonely. Given the current situation it was very sweet of Mumtaz to drop in. We met after many years,” Dharmendra was quoted as saying. He went on to add, “Humein aur milna chahiye (We should meet more),” According to The Indian Express.
In another picture, the two are seen in a warm embrace, happy about their reunion. The picture is captioned ‘So sweet’ followed by a heart emoji. Take a look:
Having worked in several movies together, such as ‘Loafer’, ‘Jheel Ke Uss Paar’ and ‘Mere Humdam Mere Dost’, the superstar said as quoted by the daily, “We did a hit film together in the 1960s Mere Humdam Mere Dost, where she was the second lead. Mehnat se woh top heroine bann gayi. In the 1970s, we did two very good films together, Jheel Ke Uss Paar and Loafer. Loafer’s songs were big hits. ‘Aaj mausam bada beimaan hai’ is hummed to this day.”
About their casual meeting, Dharmendra told Bombay Times, “Mumtaz toh bohot saalon baad mili mujhe. Hamare waqt mein hum bohot zyaada hi milte julte the aapas mein. During those days, main toh bagair kisi ko chhede baithta hi nahi tha. She was also very chulbuli in nature. Our tuning matched and hence we bonded well. I used to visit her place and she would treat me to some yummy fish. It felt really nice that after so many years she came to see me.”
Dharmendra married Prakash Kaur in 1954, before his Bollywood debut. He has four children with her, including actors Sunny and Bobby Deol. After working with Hema Malini in several films, he fell head over heels for her and married her.
