It looks like WhatsApp is going to give a bit more weightage to how the chat profile’s status updates get managed by the user. The Facebook-owned instant messaging app could, in fact, be working on a status reply indicator, as per a report by WABetaInfo. With the new update, a new, different icon will be displayed next to the chat when the latest message to arrive is a reply to a status update, says the report, basing its claims on a screenshot captured from WhatsApp Desktop beta. If the feature is currently being tested for desktop, we can expect it to arrive on Android and iOS too.
The feature is expected to make it easier for users to know who in their contacts list actually responded to their status updates. It would help distinguish a status reply from a general message on the chat screen.
So, although the feature looks likely to come to the desktop, Android and iOS versions of the app, it is not yet confirmed when it would be rolled out.
In another, earlier report that came out in February, WABetaInfo mentioned that the instant messaging app could also have plans for a new desktop feature that lets businesses set up custom cover photos, just like users can do on Facebook. The report claimed that the feature was being tested for WhatsApp Business on iOS. However, official confirmation on the same has not yet arrived and hence, there is no knowing when the feature could get launched.
