WhatsApp has been testing several new features on its platform. The company recently started testing updated emoji reactions, ability to move chats to iOS for more beta users and more. WABeta has now reported that the company has started testing support for voice notes in the Status section.
The feature is likely to be named as ‘voice status’ and according to the report, will let users post voice notes as WhatsApp Status.
According to the report, the feature is rolling out in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.22.16.3 update. There’s no information available if the company will roll out the feature for the iOS version or not.
WhatsApp voice status: How it works
WABetaInfo has also posted the screenshot where it can be seen that the company has added a new ‘microphone’ icon at the bottom of the status tab. Tapping on the option will let users record a quick note and post it as a status update.
It is also important to note that the voice status will only be available for people you choose in the privacy settings. Along with that it will also be end-to-end encrypted like calls and messages.
As of now, it is not clear when the company will roll out this feature to the final build of the app. Also, the feature is currently rolling out only in beta.
