Wednesday Season 2 hasn’t been confirmed yet, but one thing seems certain: Netflix’s hit show won’t be making the jump over to Amazon.
Despite reports to the contrary, IGN understands that rumors that Amazon will be distributing Wednesday Season 2 are not accurate. This information is corroborated by similar reporting from Indiewire and elsewhere.
The Independent previously reported that Wednesday could be migrating to Amazon Prime due to Amazon acquiring Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 2021. While Netflix distributes Wednesday, the property is produced by MGM. Despite that, IGN understands that Netflix’s deals for Wednesday were locked in long before Amazon acquired MGM. Amazon has also previously stated that not all MGM content will be exclusive to Prime Video.
In short, when Wednesday Season 2 is inevitably announced, it will almost certainly be on Netflix.
That’s good news for Netflix given that Tim Burton’s adaptation of the creepy and kooky family was a monster hit for the streamer. The series, which features Jenny Ortega as a teenaged version of Wednesday Addams, broke records when it released in November, quickly becoming Netflix’s second most watched show of all time.
Our review was a bit less kind, noting that while Ortega shines as Wednesday, “some tertiary characters struggle from weak writing while more interesting players are kept on the sidelines.” Nevertheless, “it’s not enough to bog down the series too much.”
We’ll likely know more about Wednesday Season 2 this year. In the meantime, check out the rest of our favorite shows from 2022.
