Weapon focusing is set for a big overhaul once Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion goes live, and in a new post, developer Bungie has detailed how you’ll be able to get your hands on some of the best loot in the game. Commander Zavala, who players usually visit to stock up on Strike bounties and rewards earned from leveling up his vendor rank, will have a bigger role to play in Season 20 as he will offer the ability for players to focus Vanguard weapons and armor.
According to Bungie, Vanguard engrams will be a virtual currency and will live exclusively on the Rank Progress bar on Commander Zavala. With Umbral engrams being retired, Vanguard Engrams will be made available and can be focused into either Vanguard armor or Vanguard weapons. although individual pieces of gear must have been acquired at least once prior to being available for focusing.
For Season 20, Zavala will offer the Photosuede armor set and the following Vanguard weapons:
- Xenoclast IV
- The Third Axiom
- Royal Entry
- Empty Vessel
- Punching Out
- Fortissimo-11
- Strident Whistle
- Pure Poetry
- Prolonged Engagement
Beyond this new status quo from Zavala, the Vanguard commander will also offer Nightfall weapon focusing. This does come with a few caveats though, as Nightfall weapons must have been acquired from Nightfall strikes at least once before being available for focusing. For Season 20, you’ll be able to spend Glimmer, Legendary Shards, and a Vanguard engram on one of these available Nightfall weapons:
- The Militia’s Birthright
- Mindbender’s Ambition
- Wendigo GL-3
- Hung Jury SR-4
- The Swarm
- Buzzard
Another new element entering Grandmaster Nightfall strikes will be Adept Nightfall Ciphers, and the number of Ciphers that players earn will depend on whether they qualified for Platinum, Gold, or Silver rewards at the end of the Nightfall. Adept Nightfall weapon focusing will require 10 Adept Nightfall Ciphers (Platinum counts for two ciphers, Gold counts for one) and Zavala will offer a single Adept Nightfall weapon for focusing each week. Season 20’s offerings include:
- The Militia’s Birthright
- Mindbender’s Ambition
- Wendigo GL-3
- Hung Jury SR-4
- The Swarm
- Buzzard
Almost every other ritual activity in Destiny 2 will see growth during Lightfall, as Bungie plans to introduce legacy gear focusing in Crucible, Gambit, Iron Banner, and Trials of Osiris. While each one of these activities will have their own armor sets available for legacy focusing, costs to consider, the inclusion of Trials of Osiris is easily the most exciting addition here. Bungie’s new system will allow players to obtain many pieces of gear from the last several years of Destiny 2, many of which have not been accessible for quite some time, and for Trials, the list includes some fan-favorite pieces of gear:
Trials of Osiris Weapons Available for Legacy Focusing
- Shayura’s Wrath
- Reed’s Regret
- Aisha’s Embrace
- Burden of Guilt
- Forgiveness
Note: Adept version of legacy weapons will not be available for focusing.

Lightfall is shaping up to be a major overhaul of Destiny 2, as there’ll be more organic methods for dealing with pesky Champions, longstanding vendors find new roles within the Destiny 2 meta, and multiple loadouts are introduced.
