Warning! The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Spoilers Are Apparently In The Wild

If you’re excited about The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom–and we’re guessing that applies to a lot of you–heed this warning: Multiple reports suggest the game has leaked, with numerous videos appearing online nearly two weeks before the game is scheduled to release.

Many on Twitter and other social media platforms, including Kotaku senior reporter Ethan Gach (below) and the YouTube channel GameXplain, have publicly warned Zelda fans about the leak. Both have reported seeing potential spoilers being posted online–including footage of what appears to be the early moments of the next Zelda adventure.

If you’re one of the Hylian loyalists who do not wish to be spoiled, here are a few ways to protect yourself in the days leading up to the new game’s launch:

  • Clear your YouTube watch history of all Zelda-related content. The “Recommended For You” page will collate new and popular content, and with spoilery Zelda videos likely to see big views, the algorithm can be fooled to think you will want to see it too.
  • Mute certain keywords on social media. “Zelda,” “Link,” “Tears Of The Kingdom,” “#TOTK,” and “LoZ” are all recommended options, but if you want to cast a wide net, even “Nintendo” should be considered.
  • Make sure videos are not set to auto-play on whichever social media platforms you use. If someone tries to post a Zelda video without using those keywords, if the video doesn’t play automatically, you may be able to spare yourself an unwitting spoiler.

GameSpot’s recent hands-on preview for Tears Of The Kingdom called the game “more open-ended than you think,” saying, “…while Nintendo is still maintaining the mystery around much of the game, our extensive hands-on with the new tools showed an incredible amount of creative problem-solving and thrilling traversal in this ambitious sequel.”

The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom is scheduled for release on May 12 exclusively on Nintendo Switch. A Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch OLED is available now, although supplies are limited.
