Valorant Esports Team Forced To Forfeit VCT Match Because a Player Was Too Busy Playing Honkai Star Rail

Genshin Impact dev MiHoYo’s latest, Honkai: Star Rail, is proving to be a huge success, within only days of its launch. The game garnered over 5 million pre-registrations before its launch, and crossed 20 million downloads within one day of its release.

The game is apparently so good that a Valorant professional was found to be so engrossed in Honkai Star Rail during his time at the Valorant Challenger 2023- Honk Kong/Taiwan Split 2, that his team had to forfeit their match.

Ghost Commandos were set to face S2 Esports on May 2. The team, however, had to forfeit the match, granting easy victory to S2 Esports. The reason being that a team member, whose identity has not yet been revealed, failed to download the VCT Client on time because he was caught up with Honkai: Star Rail.

As interesting as this incident is, it’s just another proof of how well Honkai: Star Rail is doing. Not to mention that its launch was actually met with criticisms from reviewers as you can see on the App Stores, after which things took a turn for the better, as more and more players simply enjoyed the game. Additionally, there have been server issues and errors too.

Regardless, Honkai: Star Rail has emerged as a surprise candidate from MiHoYo, that even surpassed Genshin Impact’s number of day one downloads. And if not anything else, this incident at the Valorant Challengers League shows how addictive the game actually is, managing to engage even professional esports players.
