WhatsApp started testing UPI-based payments service on its platform in 2017 in beta. Four years later, the company finally rolled out the feature for the stable version of the app.
Now, the company has started testing cashbacks for UPI payments made through the app. The feature is currently available in beta and we are expecting it to soon arrive in the final build as well.
As a part of the cashback offer, WhatsApp users will receive Re 1 as cashback for sending money to different contacts via WhatsApp. Also, the cashback benefit is a limited time offer and users can only receive the cashback up to three times only.
To receive the cashback, users will first need to enroll on WhatsApp’s Beta program and then sign up for the Payments and then make payment of any amount to three different persons who are on WhatsApp.
WhatsApp’s idea of offering cashback for UPI payments isn’t new. Other payments apps like Paytm and Google Pay have been offering cashback for a while now. Along with that, they also offer additional benefits such as discount coupons and free benefits and more.
For those unaware, WhatsApp has recently introduced a couple of new features to the app. This includes an increased file size limit by up to 2GB, new groups features, communities, emoji reactions, new voice messaging feature and more.
