Upcoming Apple Macs with M2 processor shows up on Steam database: Here’s what we learn | Digit

A couple of yet-to-be-released Apple Macs with M2 silicon gets spotted on Steam database. The same was revealed in a Steam Hardware Survey. Here’s what we learn.

Valve’s Steam published monthly data comprising of different kinds of computer hardware and software its gamers use. This data includes the Operating system version, system specifications, and other details. In the data published by Steam in November, MacRumors spotted two unreleased Apple Mac identifiers namely “Mac 14.6” and “Mac 15.4” respectively.

The Steam database reveals that the usage of both Macs is “0.00%” which means that they are not widely used. It might be the testers using the Macs to test how different Steam games and applications perform on the system and this might have resulted in capturing the system details in the Steam database.

Apart from the identifier “Mac 14.6” appearing in Steam’s survey, it has recently been spotted in Geekbench testing results. The test results and the score hint that the M2 Max chip might be used in “Mac 14.6”. The M2 Max chip is most likely to power the high-end versions of the upcoming MacBook Pro and the entry-level Mac Studio Model.

Apple is rumored to introduce multiple Macs in early 2023 including MacBook Pro, Mac Studio, and Apple Silicon-powered Mac Pro. Since the “Mac 15.4” identifier has not been seen other than Steam so maybe this identifier is referring to the unreleased Mac Studio. Also, The M2 chip is only 11% faster than the M1 chip so it won’t be a surprise if the M2 Max chip is a slight upgrade compared to its predecessor.
