Ubisoft is reportedly working on two new Far Cry games. One of them is a single-player sequel to the main Far Cry series, and the other is a spin-off title featuring multiplayer.
According to the report by Insider Gaming, the two games were originally supposed to be one project but were later separated into two different titles.
Far Cry 7 is known internally as Project Blackbird. The multiplayer version of the game is internally known as Project Maverick. According to the report, Ubisoft Montreal is directing both two projects.
Insider Gaming notes that not much is known about Project Maverick. However, what’s interesting is that the game is said to be set in the wilderness of Alaska and will be like an extraction shooter. It will also have features such as permadeath, a backpack system, contracts, and more.
It is also reported that even though there aren’t many details about Far Cry 7, it is entirely possible that the game could have a similar setting to that of the multiplayer game. The games are still a couple of years away, so there is a lot of time for speculation and official teases by Ubisoft itself. Although not confirmed, there is talk of characters from previous Far Cry games returning to the series. The games are said to have a tentative release date of fall 2025.
