Truecaller to partner with Airtel, Jio, Vi to reduce spam calls in India | Digit

According to reports, Truecaller wants to collaborate with Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel,  and Vi (Vodafone Idea) to shield customers from telemarketers and scammers. Identification data is easily stolen as India continues to use more computerized methods of payment, watching films, and even taking public transportation.

Spam calls and messages may result in hackers gaining access. For Android, Truecaller has adopted a lot of strategies to reduce SMS scams. However, a strategic partnership with India’s top telecom companies can enhance cyber security for the users.

Nami Zarringhalam, the chief strategy officer and co-founder, Truecaller stated in an interaction with The Economic Times that the business plans to use “artificial intelligence (AI)-based technologies” to sort out scammers’ schemes, which are viral in the cybersecurity industry.

Truecaller co-founder adds, “I think what is really positive is that this area (spam and frauds) has gotten the attention with TRAI confirming that this is an issue, and it is causing harm to people. There are so many stories about people, for instance, senior citizens, who lost their savings by being defrauded and then the kind of shame and guilt that they might feel on an emotional level.”

The corporation is probably referring to the consulting document published by the TRAI last year, introducing  Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) in Telecommunication Networks. The telecom organization was looking into the possibility of displaying caller ID on phones to assist users in recognizing callers, including potentially spam callers. The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), a body of representation for all three telecoms, rejected the government’s recommendation due to cost and privacy-related issues. Jio has claimed that the requirement to activate the CNAP program on every device raises privacy-related concerns.

Reportedly, the Swedish company launched its first office outside of Sweden, with roughly 200 people, in Bengaluru. Truecaller will also expect to increase its presence in India, where it already has a sizable customer base, through such agreements.
