As the year draws to a close, we’ve been reviewing game releases from the last month. We’ve noticed that the most prolific studios produce content for online casinos. The format is specific, but there are parallels between the innovations in slots and video games.
With that in mind, we decided to take a look at the latest games to hit UK online casinos. Here are our top three, and they aren’t all Christmas slots!
1. Christmas Plaza DoubleMax
It’s December, so the software providers are out to get us all in the festive mood. In the video game world, we don’t often see releases of old games with a Christmas makeover, perhaps for a good reason. There’s more of a classy New Year’s theme to this game, which is a reskin of ‘Raptors DoubleMax’.
Still, the ‘DoubleMax’ mechanic keeps things interesting with multipliers that double with each consecutive win. Additionally, there’s a bonus round that keeps the action moving. Overall, Yggdrasil has done a good job of creating a festive game that isn’t sickly sweet.
2. Gods vs Gigablox
Hot Rise Games has switched out the eldritch characters from ‘Monsters vs Gigablox’ for even mightier characters. It teamed up with Yggdrasil for ‘Gods vs Giglablox’, so it’s not surprising to see plenty of Norse mythology references.
In fact, the Gods are all ancient but from different pantheons. In this battle, you’ll see Thor and Ares battling against Anubis and Kitsune. Just like films and video games, slots rely quite heavily on remakes, but there are still innovations to be found.
3. Naughty Nick’s Book
We finish on another Christmas slot that’s hitting UK online casinos this December. Play’n GO has managed a clever twist on its usual ‘book of’ feature by making it the naughty or nice list that belongs to Father Christmas.
The quirky comic graphics are what make the game, though. It almost has a Beano or Dandy-type quality, making it jolly and playful instead of a traditional festive slot. Reels wrapped as presents and bonus features from St. Nick’s helpers keep the action tied to the theme.
Freshening Up the Familiar
It’s clear that software providers have an ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ approach, which we’re seeing from content producers in every part of the entertainment industry. Reworking fan-favourite features or reskinning games is a common and popular way to deliver new content that players can quickly get to grips with and enjoy.
