Early 2021 saw the commencement of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the release of Wandavision on Disney+. Since then, the MCU has seen new heroes and villains, along with returning characters from the multiverse.
Phase 4 will include more projects until 2023. With many movies and TV shows already in production, fans have a small idea about the list of characters that will make their presence felt in the universe.
However, some will have greater impact partly because of the powers they possess, and they have the capabilities to cause seismic shifts in the power balance of the MCU.
Here are some of the most powerful MCU characters that fans might want to keep their eye on in Phase 4.
The Celestials
It’s no secret that the Celestials are currently the most powerful beings in the universe. MCU fans received the first glimpse of these cosmic beings in Phase 2, when Guardians of the Galaxy introduced Eson the Searcher.
However, it was the 2021 release in Eternals which provided fans with a much deeper storyline as it introduced characters like Arishem and Tiamut, and it seems like they will return in a future story.
The Eternals
If the Celestials are all-powerful, then their creations in the Eternals can also tackle some of the most powerful characters in the MCU. Chloe Zhao’s 2021 movie showcased how the near-immortal synthetic beings have kept peace and order on Earth while living in the shadows.
From the powerful Ikaris to the warrior Thena and the lightning quick Makkari, the Eternals as a group is a formidable force for anyone to handle, and fans want to see more of their struggle with Earth and their creators in the Celestials in a future movie.
Hulk
Bruce Banner may have had his struggles with the green monster in Phase 3. However, it’s no secret that fans will soon see his rage when Hulk returns in the She-Hulk Disney+ show.
While his recent appearance in Shang-Chi showcased the lingering injury he received during the events of Avengers: Endgame, fans can expect to see a lot of smash when Dr. Banner arrives later this year.
Thor
Just like the Hulk, Thor also faced a lot of struggles with issues such as alcoholism following the events of Avengers: Infinity War.
However, fans should be quite excited to see the God of Thunder in full form during his next appearance with Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder, along with the returning Natalie Portman as Lady Thor.
Scarlet Witch
Disney+’s first MCU TV show revealed the true scale of Wanda Maximoff’s powers following her multiple appearances in the previous two phases.
However, with Wanda now taking up the mantle of the Scarlet Witch, it seems like she will be an unstoppable force, when she appears next in Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and it will be interesting to see what she has in store for fans.
Spider-Man
There’s no superhero list involving the MCU, which doesn’t feature everyone’s favorite friendly neighborhood superhero, and this one carries on the legacy.
No Way Home featured some of the lowest points in the life of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. However, the movie also showcased the unhinged power of Spidey during his battles against Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, and fans can’t wait to see how he levels up in the next trilogy.
Adam Warlock
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ended with one of the most hype post-credits scene in MCU history with the tease of Marvel icon, Adam Warlock.
With the third movie of the franchise currently in production, it was recently revealed that Will Poulter will play the legendary character, and if he’s anywhere close to his comic book counterpart, then fans should expect to see some insane power levels.
He Who Remains
Loki had one of the more interesting plotlines in MCU history as it revolved around the God of Mischief. However, in the end, Jonathan Majors’ He Who Remains stole the show from Tom Hiddleston and Sophia Di Martino after he toyed with them after pulling the strings from behind the scenes.
He may have died at the end from a stab wound. However, Majors’ work in the MCU isn’t done as he will soon return as Kang the Conqueror, and he will surely be a threat that can cause havoc for MCU’s biggest heroes.
Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange may have had a hard time fending off Peter Parker and his rogues gallery in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
However, make no mistake, as the wizard still holds some of the most powerful magic in the MCU right now, and fans want to see how he uses his skillsets against some of the threats he will face in the Doctor Strange sequel.
Captain Marvel
Carol Danvers showed that she was a force to reckon with when she appeared during the last battle in Avengers: Endgame.
With the character returning with a sequel movie in The Marvels, fans should expect to see more of her powerful abilities along with the likes of Ms. Marvel in Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau.
