The previous decade witnessed a change of guard as Tom Holland was cast for the role of Spider-Man in the MCU.
Holland assumed the role of Spider-Man after Andrew Garfield’s portrayal in The Amazing Spider-Man movies. The casting of Holland generated significant buzz, given Garfield’s well-regarded performance as the web-slinger.
Despite assuming the role from Garfield, Holland recently expressed regret over not reaching out to his fellow British actor. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Holland admitted, “I was so focused on securing the role that I didn’t take a moment to consider what it must have been like for him.”
Holland attributed his naivety to his failure to reach out to Garfield. “If I’d made my second movie and it didn’t necessarily deliver in the way it should have done and they recast me, I would really struggle to bounce back,” he remarked. “I just wish I’d called him and just said, ‘You know I can’t turn down this opportunity.’”
Garfield eventually reprised his role as Peter Parker alongside Holland and former Spidey Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In the conversation, Holland confirmed the existence of a WhatsApp group called “The Spider-Boys,” where they stay connected and catch up with each other.
