Tom Cruise was recently asked about his pick on Barbie Vs Oppenheimer. The Barbie Vs Oppenheimer debate has been raging on the internet for quite some time now, as both the movies release on the same day, 21st July. Not to mention the starkly different themes of the two films, where Barbie takes you to the pink, dream world of Barbie Land full of highly saturated colours, while Oppenheimer is a gritty retelling of true events. And now, Tom Cruise has weighed in on this endless debate, dubbed Barbenheimer, revealing which movie he’ll watch first on 21st July.
Tom Cruise takes his pick for 21st July
Tom Cruise was attending the Australian premiere of Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One, and celebrating his 61st birthday. At the premiere, which was also attended by Cruise’s MI 7 co-stars Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff and Simon Pegg, the actor was asked about upcoming movies Barbie and Oppenheimer. And the star has shared which movie he’ll go to see first on 21st July. It’s Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
“I want to see both Barbie and Oppenheimer. I’ll see them opening weekend. Friday I’ll see Oppenheimer first and then Barbie on Saturday.”
Cruise also added that he likes the immersive experience of watching movies on the big screen, and thinks “as a community and an industry, it’s important” to continue going to theatres.
The actor was reportedly angry at Mission Impossible 7: Dead Reckoning Part One losing out on the IMAX screens after a week of its release to Oppenheimer. Reports even suggested that Cruise had to call Paramount executives to allow some premium screens to his film, even after the release of Oppenheimer. Regardless, on the question which movie Tom Cruise will choose on the Barbenheimer debate, we now have the answer.
