The homemaker, who dedicated her life to bringing up her two sons, gave all the credit to Suhas for his success. “It’s mainly his determination and hard work that helped him achieve great success on the court,” she added.
The 60-year-old, who is with Suhas in Noida, recalled that it was his father Yathiraj LK, who inspired him to join the civil services. “After he passed out of NIT, Surathkal he was in Germany for a brief stint but then he decided to join the IAS. Once he met a senior IAS officer when his dad was on official duty and such interactions inspired him to join the civil service.”

Speaking to TOI after his final match, Suhas Yathiraj said he was equally happy and sad. However, he added that it was a moment of pride to be able to make so many others happy with his performance.
“I am equally happy as well as sad. I am grateful that I performed well enough to win the silver, but also sad that I lost by just a whisker. I just want to relish the moment for now. I have been receiving endless calls from well-wishers and I’m extremely happy that I could bring joy to so many other fellow countrymen,” Suhas said.
Speaking about the immense pressure of performance both in his profession and passion, Suhas said, “These can’t be compared, yet both have their own set of huge challenges. It’s just good that I like to take up challenges, whether I’m managing a district or the shuttle on the court.”
Bringing the North and South together Suhas is being hailed as the ‘son of Karnataka’ and ‘son-in-law of Uttar Pradesh’. His wife Ritu belongs to Lucknow. “It has been a mixed bag of emotions for both of us. We are happy that everyone else is so happy,” said wife Ritu Suhas.
