Time Flies Is a Perfectly Weird Indie Game Announced At Day of The Devs

The beauty of indie games is that they can be wholly unique. There’s no pressure from big corporations to create the next big money maker (although I’m sure indie devs would love that). Instead, indie studies have more freedom. They can create titles that are more expressive or arguably, more creative.

The Day of the Devs livestream, has proved the perfect platform to surface these indie titles over the last 10 years now, and this year’s showing is no different, as proven by the show’s opening reveal – Time Flies.

The premise is simple. You play as a small fly, aiming to complete as many different items on your bucket list before you ultimately perish. But there’s a clever twist.

Your fly’s lifespan is based on its location within the world, and the average life expectancy there. If you’re in the US, you’ll live for around 79 years, in the UK it would be 80, if you’re in Japan, that jumps up to around 85 years. It’s this unique twist that epitomises what indie games can be.

Your bucket list in Time Flies is full of fun tasks, that include the opportunity to “get drunk”, by landing in a glass of wine, “get rich” by finding a bunch of coins and more. However, of course, you’ll have to do it all before your time runs out.

The game is described on the official website as being “about our limited time in this world? Probably” and is done in an exceptionally clever way. It may not be the prettiest looking game, but its minimalist graphics seem to fit the style it’s going for.

Time Flies will be available on PlayStation, PC, Switch and Mac when it releases and if you’re interested, you can sign up for more information at timeflies.buzz. There’s no release date just yet, but the game is “coming soonish…”
