There is no other feeling as beautiful as love, says singer Asees Kaur

Mona

Completely in love is singer Asees Kaur with the idea of ‘love’! A total romantic at heart, as much as she enjoyed singing Pyar Diyan Rahan, the song is enjoying a good run with youngsters. This is an amazing time for singers, believes Asees. “It’s just like the 90s, when independent music was at the peak. Once again, lots of singers are coming up with beautiful numbers and enjoying appreciation.”

Pyar Diyan Rahan is her first song with Tips music, “The first time I heard the song, I completely fell in love with it. It has been beautifully composed by Mrinmoy Sarmah and Sagnika Saha, and the lyrics are by Goldie Sohel.”

Favourite five

  • Current favourite number – Pani Di Gal
  • Current favourite singer – Arijit Singh
  • My own favourite song – Galat
  • Lockdown favourite – Having tea with family
  • Favourite go-to person – My sister, Deedar

With songs like Panghat (Roohi), Bolna (Kapoor & Sons), Rang Reza (Beiimaan Love), Hui Malang (Malang) to her credit, Asees adds, “My father encouraged me to sing. I started singing shabads when I was barely five and that fetched me lots of praise. By my sixth standard, I had resolved to make a career in playback singing and sing for Madhuri Dixit,” While Asees is yet to sing for her favourite actress, she values that her entire family moved from Panipat to Mumbai to help her pursue her dream. “My family has been a huge support, my father, who is into business, moved his base so that I can fulfil my dream.”

Chandigarh calling

Anything that’s connected to Chandigarh becomes an instant hit, believes Asees. “Galat was shot in Chandigarh and has already crossed 60 million, while Pani Di Gal too crossed 119 million views. Chandigarh Mein fetched its share of followers too,” says Asees. “Whenever I go for shows in Punjab, we first land at Chandigarh, eat delicious food before beginning the shoot.”

In fact, it’s the flavours of her hometown, Panipat, which she misses the most in Mumbai. “I miss the tikkis and gol gappe of Panipat, and also the loud weddings of Punjab!”

Positive vibes

Lockdown made the singer sit down and take notice of her physical as well as mental health. “From a fast-paced life to be locked up at home came as a jolt, but also made me realise how to take care of my body and mind.” Most significant in today’s time is to open up, she insists. “We must speak on what bothers us. It’s the time to help each other out.” For her dose of positivity, she starts her days with riyaaz. “If I don’t, I am lost and listless; riyaaz makes me a happy bird.”
