A few years ago, Apple introduced a new tier of its smartwatch – the Apple Watch SE – which, as the name implies, was a much more affordable variant of Apple’s smartwatch like the iPhone SE. Now, in his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that the Cupertino-based tech giant has a new smartwatch in the works, being built especially with professionals in mind, which might be the much-rumoured rugged variant of the Apple Watch.
The new rugged Apple Watch could be named the Apple Watch Pro, or the company can also go with other names, including – Apple Watch Extreme, Apple Watch Max or Apple Watch Extreme Edition, as per Gurman. This new ‘Pro’ tier Apple Watch could also carry a ‘Pro’ tier price tag.
If Gurman is to be believed, the upcoming high-end Apple Watch could cost as much as the iPhone 13 Pro, which starts at $999 (Rs 1,19,900). So, that means that the ‘Pro’ Apple Watch could carry a price tag of around $900 (~Rs 71,480).
The ‘Pro’ Apple Watch could have a larger display and battery life
“That smartwatch will be designed to appeal to extreme sports athletes and anyone who might otherwise buy a high-end Garmin sports watch for intense workouts.”, said Gurman in his newsletter.
As for the features, the said Apple Watch Pro might come with a bigger shatter-resistant screen, bigger battery and a rugged case made out of titanium. Furthermore, it could have enhanced fitness tracking features, including improved hiking and swimming tracking.
The Apple Watch Series 8 is expected to release alongside the iPhone 14 series in September. Apple might also unveil the second-generation Apple Watch SE alongside the rumoured rugged one.
