Things have been looking up for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers lately, with BOOM! Studios’ flagship series recently exploring a status quo called “Reunited, Recharged.” But all good things must come to an end, and life is about to get very bleak for the Rangers in a new conflict called “Darkest Hour.”
“Darkest Hour” is a yearlong, 12-issue storyline that begins in the pages of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #111. IGN can exclusively debut a new preview of this dramatic Power Rangers arc. Head down to the slideshow gallery below for a closer look:
“Darkest Hour” is written by Melissa Flores and drawn by Simona Di Gianfelice, with the creative team also including colorist Raúl Angulo, letterer Ed Dukeshire and cover artist Taurin Clarke. Here’s Boom’s official description for the first issue:
Mistress Vile has won, or so it seems, with control of the Grid and Dark Specter’s infections spreading through the universe! As if an epic battle between Vile and the Vessel wasn’t enough, the separated and stranded Rangers receive help from the last team they’d expect, but it may not be the help they were hoping for…
In the tradition of Shattered Grid and perfectly timed with the 30th anniversary of Power Rangers, writer Melissa Flores and Simona Di Gianfelice kick off the event they’ve been building to for the last year that will forever change the Power Rangers universe!
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #111 will be released in comic shops and digital storefronts on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.
In other comic book news, IGN recently got a first look at IDW’s TMNT: The Last Ronin sequel, and DC was the big winner at this year’s Eisner awards.
