The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau has acknowledged and appreciated the Star Wars Expanded Universe and pointed out his admiration for Legends.
The Star Wars Legends was known as the Expanded Universe before it got rebranded by Disney and declared non-canon. However, Jon Favreau believes that a continuity for the future of Star Wars is most crucial when it comes to decisions.
He said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly: “When I was younger, we didn’t have movies, but there were comic books, there were novels, things that are encompassed in the [expanded universe] or Legends.”
The Star Wars Expanded Universe is not relatively new and has been around for as long as the Star Wars saga movies. The first-ever comics from this universe were published less than a year after the release of Star Wars: A New Hope. Star Wars Legend includes books, comics, video games, and major spin-off movies such as Star Wars: Clone Wars.
Favreau continued his explanation, “Clearly, there are decisions that have to be made to fit it all together, but for us, I think one thing we’re in agreement about is that the characters — as special as they are — the story has to drive what characters are.”
The Mandalorian co-creator does hint towards a possibility of using Legends as a source of inspiration to continue driving the story of the Star Wars Universe forward.
Grand Admiral was one of the villains from Legends who is also serving as one of the main villains of the current canon era.
This statement from Favreau does point towards other Expanded Universe characters also joining the fold in the near future, as highlighted by Screen Rant.
