During your adventures throughout The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll be collecting Light of Blessing key items from completing shrines, which you can transform into either Heart Containers or expand your Stamina meter. If you end up regretting a choice — wishing you’d invested more in Heart Containers and less on your Stamina, or vice versa — there is a way to reallocate these resources…for a price.
The secret to doing this can be found in the Royal Hidden Passage. Completing the side quests “Who Goes There?” and “A Deal With The Statue” in Lookout Landing will grant you access to the Royal Hidden Passage and to this powerful ability. This guide will cover where the passage can be found, how to enter, and how to reallocate your health and stamina.
Updated by Jeff Brooks on July 4, 2023: Added more useful in-text links throughout, clarified some passages, and revamped the related links to offer a more worthwhile selection.
How To Start “Who Goes There?”
To access the Royal Hidden Passage, you’ll first want to have completed one of the regional Temples. Once one of these has been conquered, return to Lookout Landing and climb down into the Emergency Shelter. You’re looking for Jerrin, one of the Hylians sweeping by a short set of stairs in the back. You might have spoken to her previously, but now, there’s a hole in the wall behind her.
Speak with Jerrin, and she’ll explain she cleaned a bit too hard and knocked out a chunk of the wall. Ever since, she’s been hearing a demonic voice coming from within. Once you’ve begun the side quest, crouch and head into the passage.
Find The Horned Statue In Royal Hidden Passage
After breaking apart the rocks to the right, you’ll come to a small room with a horned, demonic statue inside. The statue is a bit sinister, and it might look familiar to Breath of the Wild veterans. In BotW, this statue was found outside Hateno Village. The statue explains its story; it was transformed into this stone statue by the Goddess Hylia long ago. The Goddess Hylia, as further punishment, moved the statue here, underground.
Despite these punishments, the horned statue wants to continue its dark deeds of meddling in life and vitality.
The horned statue will then remove one heart from you.
This will then prompt you to return to Jerrin to explain what you found, concluding the “Who Goes There?” side quest.
This will also begin the side adventure: “A Deal With the Statue.”
How To Complete “A Deal With The Statue”
Speak with the horned statue again, and you can request either a Heart Container or Stamina Vessel. The statue will return it freely, and then it will explain its deal in more detail, which will then complete the very small but worthwhile side quest.
How To Exchange Essence
The process to exchange your essence is a bit convoluted, but it’s ultimately quite simple:
- The horned statue gives you 100 rupees and takes a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel.
- You can then pay the horned statue 120 rupees in exchange for a new Heart Container or new Stamina Vessel.
- The end result is you basically pay 20 rupees to swap essences; either a Heart Container for a Stamina Vessel or vice versa.
