The Last of Us Season 2 was confirmed not long after its premiere season debuted. The first season of the live-action TV show was extremely well-received and praised for its storytelling and faithful adaptation of the video game.

Show’s Stars Talk About The Last of Us Part II Turning Point
Speaking about the second season, HBO’s The Last of Us stars recently talked about a major moment that takes place in The Last of Us: Part II, the sequel video game that will serve as the source for the show’s second season as well.
Pedro Pascal told Esquire, “It wouldn’t make sense to follow the first game so faithfully only to stray severely from the path. So, yeah, that’s my honest answer.”
Pascal is referring to a major tragedy in The Last of Us Part II which is Joel’s brutal death. Joel was killed by Abby, the daughter of the surgeon killed by Joel, when he saved Ellie from the Fireflies at the end of Season 1.
Pedro’s comments differ from the comments made by Craig Mazin, co-writer and executive producer of the show. Mazin said, “This should be fairly obvious to anyone by now, but I don’t fear killing characters.”
More importantly, he added, “But the important thing to note is that neither Neil nor I feel constrained by the source material.” Neil Druckmann is the co-President at Naughty Dog and the co-creator of The Last of Us franchise.
Bella Ramsey, who played Ellie in the live-action show, said that she doesn’t know if she’s “emotionally ready for it”, when quizzed about Joel’s death.
Season 1 of The Last of Us is more or less stuck to the main plot with a few deviations here and there. That coupled with Craig’s comment certainly means that there can be more deviations coming to the adaptation with Season 2.
