The Game Awards 2022 To Follow A Shorter Format; Tekken 8 Confirmed for the Event and More

The latest edition of the Game Awards is all set to air on December 8, 2022, and the players are hoping and praying that their favorite title is awarded the Game of the Year. The main contenders for Game of the Year 2022 are Elden Ring and God of War: Ragnarok, and it is going to be a tough competition between the two.

On the topic of The Game Awards, Geoff Keighley has recently stated that the event will be following a shorter format compared to the previous ones. As spotted by VGC, Keighley stated through Twitter spaces, that the show will be significantly shorter this year. The reason he stated was that the length of the show has been causing fatigue, as there are a lot of games and developers that wish to be a part of it.

He added that they will be cutting back on showcases significantly to have a more streamlined show and players should know that there will be fewer games and fewer bigger games this time around. This will definitely decrease the runtime The Game Awards has been following for years now.

Another story related to The Game Awards 2022 is that Ed Boon, the co-creator of Mortal Kombat and Chief Creative Officer at NetherRealm Studios has stated that they will not be a part of the event through a tweet. He stated that it was shocking that they managed to pull of the MK11 announcement at the Game Awards 4 years ago, but that will not be the case this time around as they are not ready to announce the next NRS game yet.

Even though one major fighting title will not be a part of the event, it seems another major one will be. The official Tekken Twitter account has tweeted that players should ‘Get Ready’ for their announcement and save the date. The date mentioned is December 8, 2022, which is also the day when The Game Awards 2022 will be taking place.
