The Russia-Ukraine crisis has finally seeped into the world of Hollywood as the biggest blockbusters of the year will not be released in major Eastern European markets.
With March set to see the arrival of Matt Reeves’ The Batman in theatres around the world, Russian fans won’t have the pleasure of seeing the Dark Knight on the silver screen as Warner Bros. has halted the movie’s release in Russia.
The news comes after the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian armed forces, following which many countries including the United States have issued sanctions for their actions against their neighboring nation.
The Batman is slated to be the biggest movie of the first half of 2022, and it’s a shame that one of the biggest markets in the Eastern European region won’t be able to showcase the upcoming flick.
However, it’s not just Warner Bros. that have plans to halt releases as even Disney has announced their intentions to stop releases of their upcoming movies in Russia, which includes Pixar’s Turning Red.
Finally, Sony has also revealed that the company has also revoked releases in the Eastern European country, which means that their upcoming Marvel blockbuster Morbius won’t be part of the release slate.
It’s unclear whether this decisions will be overturned anytime soon. However, for now, Russia won’t have any blockbuster releases for the time being.
