IGN exclusively debuted the first official clip from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem today which showcases, in a tongue-in-cheek way, how the animation style of this new movie is starkly different from how the Turtles have been depicted in the comics and earlier adaptations.
You can watch the clip via the player above or the embed below. The scene features the voice talents of Micah Abbey as Donatello, Shamon Brown Jr. as Michelangelo, Nicolas Cantu as Leonardo, Brady Noon as Raphael.
Mutant Mayhem’s animation style is distinct from past incarnations of TMNT as well as from the signature styles of Disney-Pixar and DreamWorks Animation. In a recent interview with IGN, director Jeff Rowe credits the critical and commercial success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in convincing Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies to let them try a new approach to visualizing the Ninja Turtles and their world.
“It incentivized studios to take risks that being visually different and unique is a benefit critically and financially, and it really opened a lot of doors for other films,” Rowe said.
In addition to the aforementioned TMNT voice actors, the film’s star-studded cast includes Hannibal Buress as Genghis Frog, Rose Byrne as Leatherhead, John Cena as Rocksteady, Jackie Chan as Master Splinter, Ice Cube as Superfly, Natasia Demetriou as Wingnut, Post Malone as Ray Fillet, Seth Rogen as Bebop, Paul Rudd as Mondo Gecko, Alongside Ayo Edebiri as April O’Neil, Giancarlo Esposito as Baxter Stockman and Maya Rudolph as Cynthia Utrom.
