Tabcorp’s head of wagering and media resigns

The head of Tabcorp’s wagering and media division will leave the company at the end of the week, less than two months after it spun off its lotteries business in an $11 billion demerger.

Tabcorp chief executive Adam Rytenskild informed staff on Monday that Rebecca Riant, the chief operating officer of wagering and media, was leaving the company. Riant confirmed her resignation and said that she would leave Tabcorp at the end of the week.

Rytenskild thanked Riant for her two years with the company, and said Tabcorp’s chief operating officer of gaming services, Paul Carew, would absorb her responsibilities.

“We are continuing to accelerate our strategy and are refining our operating model to turn us into a more effective and competitive organisation,” Rytenskild said. “As part of this change, Rebecca Riant has made the decision to leave Tabcorp and pursue other opportunities.”

Riant, a long-time Westpac and Commonwealth Bank executive, joined Tabcorp in 2020 as executive general manager for sustainability, markets and customer experience delivery. She took over Rytenskild’s responsibilities in the wagering and media division when the demerger process began, and was formally appointed chief operating officer of wagering and media in June 2022.

Her division runs Sky Racing, an Australian television and radio broadcaster that telecasts live thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing. The exact date of Raint’s resignation is unclear, but she did not present at an investor day on June 28. She is currently searching for a new opportunity.

Carew, who will absorb her role, has worked at Tabcorp in a variety of roles across sales and gaming since 2010. “Paul knows our total business very well at a national level,” Rytenskild said. “Most of his career has been in wagering, and he was based in Sydney for a number of years.”

Riant’s exit comes almost two months after the completion of Tabcorp’s $11 billion demerger. The company split its wagering, media and gaming division from the lotteries and keno businesses into New Tabcorp and The Lottery Corporation respectively.
