Superman: Legacy – James Gunn Inches Closer to Casting Clark Kent and Lois Lane

The James Gunn-led DC Universe will soon have casting reveals for the roles of Clark Kent and Lois Lane for Superman: Legacy.

The James Gunn-directed film will see a new Man of Steel as the first film of a new DC Universe from the director. Gunn’s currently testing actors for the parts of Kent and Lane, and we might hear the final casting announcement soon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn held screen tests for multiple actors over the weekend. The screen tests featured the actors in pre-determined pairs. This included Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan; Tom Brittney and Phoebe Dynevor; and David Corenswet and Emma Mackey.

On Saturday, these pairs acted out scenes as Clark Kent and Lois Lane in their Daily Planet reporter avatars. On Sunday, the male actors donned the Superman suits for the tests, alongside Mackey, who was the only actress brought back for the second time.

Despite being the only actress brought back on Sunday, the report suggests that Emma Mackey might not be the leading for the role of Lois Lane.

The screen tests were then shown to several executives at Warner Bros., and the report suggests that casting announcements could come soon.

Once that’s out of the way, Gunn will most likely cast other roles such as Lex Luthor, with brothers Alexander and Bill Skarsgard being part of the shortlist. Hoult, who’s up for Superman, was initially brought on to test for Luthor, however he opted for the Man of Tomorrow. It’s unclear whether the actor will test for the villainous role in case he loses out on playing Superman.

Along with that, the film will see Superman entering into a world, where superheroes are the norm, and one of the teams that will be showcased is The Authority. Gunn will also have to undertake casting decisions for its various members as well.

Gunn aims to begin shooting the film in early 2024, as the studio aims to release Superman: Legacy on July 11, 2025.
