Stranger Things’ Fifth and Final Season’s Production Delayed Due to the Writers’ Strike

Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers have confirmed that production on the fifth and final season of the hit Netflix show has been delayed because of the ongoing writers’ strike.

The Duffer Brothers took to Twitter to share the news and say that writing doesn’t simply just stop because production is set to begin.

“Duffers here. Writing does not stop when filming begins,” The Duffer Brothers wrote. “While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike. We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then — over and out. #wgastrong”

This is another example of shows and movies being impacted by the writers’ strike, which began on Tuesday, May 2. According to the Writers Guild of America, studios and streamers have not agreed to a number of issues brought up by the union, including increased compensation in this new streaming age alongside a change in residuals, a guaranteed minimum number of weeks per show, protection from the usage of AI in productions, and more.

IGN has confirmed that Marvel’s Blade has been impacted by the strike and that, while The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power is moving forward with Season 2 production, it will be doing so without its showrunners. This obviously could be a problem if rewrites are needed.
