Stock Market Live: Sensex down 200 pts; Metals gain, Reliance, M&M slide 1%

Stock market live: The key benchmark indices turned weaker on Thursday and extended losses as global cues were muted and concerns of a larger rate hike by the US Fed next week loomed. The BSE Sensex fell 200 points to 60,135, and the NSE Nifty50 shed 60 points to slip below at 17,700.

Stock market live: The key benchmark indices turned weaker on Thursday and extended losses as global cues were muted and concerns of a larger rate hike by the US Fed next week loomed. The BSE Sensex fell 200 points to 60,135, and the NSE Nifty50 shed 60 points to slip below at 17,700. 


Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, L&T, Axis Bank, HCL Tech and Tata Motors led gains on the Sensex, rising up to 1.8 per cent. While Hindalco and JSW Steel were the additional winners on the Nifty. 


On the flip side, Reliance, ICICI Bank, M&M, TCS, SBI Life and Bajaj Finserv were the top laggards across the two indices. 


The broader markets, meanwhile, opened with firm gains. The BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices edged up to 0.5 per cent higher. 


Sectorally, Nifty IT, Auto and FMCG indices were weak, while Metal index rose over 1 per cent leading gains.

 


Among stocks, SeQuent Scientific zoomed 12 per cent on terminating its agreement to acquire Tineta Pharma.
