steam pass: Valve boss hints at Microsoft Game Pass possibility for Steam – Times of India

Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve Corp, which owns PC gaming platform Steam, has opened up on the possibility of bringing over Microsoft’s Game Pass subscription service to the Steam platform, as per a report by PC Gamer. As per Newell, chances of Steam getting its own Steam Pass are slim and partnering with Microsoft instead of bringing the Game Pass to Steam is something that Valve could consider.
“I don’t think it’s something that we think we need to do ourselves, building a subscription service at this time,” Newell reportedly said. “But for their customers it’s clearly a popular option, and we’d be more than happy to work with them to get that on Steam.”
When it comes to game subscription services, Valve has been offering the EA Play service since 2020, so it is no stranger to adding a gaming subscription service to its platform.
Microsoft offers the PC Game Pass for PC games and the Xbox Game Pass for the Xbox games. If you want both, the Game Pass Ultimate subscription bundles them. With a subscription service, gamers get to access all the games the service is offering for a monthly price. Like, first time subscribers to PC Game Pass can avail of the first 8 months of membership for Rs 489 per month. As of now, the PC Game Pass gives you access to 100 PC games. Also, the EA Play membership on PC is included with the subscription with no additional charges.
In recent news, Bethesda, which is owned by Microsoft, decided to sunset its launcher and transfer all its games to Steam. The Game Pass, however, still runs from its own app. We’ll have to wait and see for further developments between Valve and Microsoft.
