One of the silliest upcoming games out there, Squirrel With a Gun, has a new trailer and it’s… surprisingly dramatic, actually?
The new look at the game – which is about, well, a squirrel with a gun – opens with a short cinematic of an agent tripping and dropping his firearm right in front of the titular rodent, which clearly ignites some kind of bloodlust in him. The rest of the trailer shows more gameplay, soundtracked with an original song that seems to take inspiration from James Bond themes (yes, really).
As the song puts it, “now you’ve been warned about the squirrel with a gun.” You can watch the latest look at the indie game below.
It’s quite the step up from Squirrel With a Gun’s first trailer, which showed some much rougher gameplay graphics but still managed to take the internet by storm. Being developed by Dan DeEntremont, it quickly gained traction after it was first unveiled last year for its silly premise that harkens to the likes of Untitled Goose Game and Goat Simulator.
Speaking to IGN last year, DeEntremont said he was inspired by the Yakuza franchise and Shadow of the Colossus, which may explain this trailer’s more serious (albeit still pretty funy) tone. The game will see the squirrel in question taking down agents with numerous weapons, robbing residents, and otherwise interacting with the environment in various different ways.
DeEntremont previously said he was on the fence on if the squirrel you play is a normal squirrel or one with “Jason Bourne-like powers.” It isn’t entirely clear from the new trailer if that will indeed be the case, but at the very least, the little guy is skilled, using the gun’s recoil to do backflips and hover above an agent as he lets rip a string of bullets.
Squirrel With a Gun doesn’t currently have a release date.
