Square Enix’s upcoming strategy RPG The DioField Chronicle will be released on September 22 of this year.
The game was originally announced during the PlayStation State of Play in March but it now has a confirmed release date and some in-game footage.
A demo will be released on August 10 that will allow you to play the opening of the game, your progress will then carry over to the main game following its release.
The trailer depicts some of the game’s mechanics. The DioField Chronicle is very clearly a by-design Japanese tactical RPG. The trailer demonstrates some of the combat mechanics you can expect to see, you’ll be able to chain movement commands and use different abilities of your units in combination. Square Enix describes the game as “The birth of a new SRPG, crafted by a skilled and experienced development team.”
The trailer also reveals more of the game’s premise. The State of Play teaser gave us a basic premise, it’s your usual continent at war archetypal setting that is seen in a lot of Japanese RPGs. Different pre-existing factions which had a tense relationship before the events of the game finally go to war, spreading chaos across the land. The universe contains a form of magic system, with demonic creatures appearing in the teaser.
More of the premise is revealed in this release date trailer, with the narrator stating there is an abundance of jade on the isle of DioField. Jade is used to power sorcery and is becoming scarcer on “the mainland” causing a resource war to break out over the magical mineral.
Some of the characters are also revealed in a slideshow. With names like Andrias Rhondarson and Iscarion Colchester, the European influence is clear.
The DioField Chronicle is available for pre-purchase now and will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
