Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Reveals Indian Web Slinger Pavitr Prabhakar, All You Need to Know

Sony has revealed the look of the Indian Spider-Man, also known as Pavitr Prabhakar. The Indian variant of the spider-themed superhero will be featured in the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Take a look at the below video, which showcases Prabhakar’s looks and his Indian Spider-Man costume. He lives in “Mumbattan”. The creators explained that the idea of this universe is that it is “Manhattan but in reverse.”

The Mumbattan name is of course a combination of Mumbai, the bumbling Indian metropolis, and Manhattan, a borough in New York. In an interview with Empire, producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller explained the city’s name.

“That’s based on an Indian comic-book look – and Nueva York from Spider-Man 2099’s world, that’s based on Syd Mead-style illustrations of what the future might look like,” Miller said.

The upcoming animated film will feature the story of Miles Morales, who takes on the moniker of Spider-Man after Peter Parker. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the sequel to the 2018 film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. It will follow Miles as he goes on an adventure across the multiverse with a new team of Spider-People, known as the Spider-Force.

The film was originally set to focus on Miles and Gwen Stacy, and it was set to release in April 2022. It was then delayed to June 2, 2023, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A third film titled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is set to release on March 29, 2024.
